Repovesi’s hiking culture began to take shape in the 1950s with boat transports at the Orilampi Holiday Centre. As wilderness hiking became more common in the 1970s, the municipality of Valkeala began to plan a trail network in the area. Built in 1987, the Lapinsalmi suspension bridge gave a major boost to hiking in Repovesi. In 2003, the national park was established along with the privately-owned Aarnikotka forest nature reserve adjacent to the park. Indeed, Repovesi had evolved from a local recreational spot into a nationally renowned hiking destination. In the early 1990s, a few thousand hikers visited the area each year, and by the late 2010s the number of visitors had increased to 150,000 a year.

On this tour, we will explore the Repovesi National Park, both along its waterways and on its trails, taking in the scenery from the saddle of a bike and the sheer face of a climbing rock. Different seasons offer opportunities for different recreational activities, nature watching and simply enjoying nature and outdoor activities.
